MacIsaac Kiltmakers is proud to offer customized Women’s Wear. We have been making women’s clothing that looks great on their own or as an outfit complimenting a man’s kilt. The following selection is intended to provide ideas for our customers. Please look through the images and then contact us to discuss your preference of styles, colours, tartans, and sizes.

The quickest and easiest way for a woman to wear her tartan or that of her spouse is to wear a sash. The traditional sash is 10 – 12 inches wide and 90” long and fringed at both ends. There are three ways to wear the traditional sash.
  • Under the left arm and crossed over the front and back over right shoulder and fastened with a brooch Sash (A) with Sash (B) showing the Heathergems Brooch.
  • Sash (C) Fold it in half and gather up the folded end to fasten a brooch to and fasten on the right shoulder. In the back, have the top layer hang down freely and pull the under layer to the left and fasten to your waistband.
  • Sash (D): Wear it simply as a wrap over a plain dress or suit.

This wrap is approximately 55 inches wide and 78 inches long and is made of soft-brushed lambs wool with an opening down one half of it. It is worn over your clothing and one side is crossed over one shoulder to secure it.

A mini sash rosette is a smaller sampling of the traditional sash but lighter to wear and pre-folded. It is about 6 inches wide and 40 inches long. Both ends are fringed and one end is folded into a rosette to place a brooch on.

It is worn on the right shoulder and fastened with a brooch or clan badge and hangs down the back. The back can be secured by pulling it down over to the left and pinning it to your waistband.

Kilted
This garment (sometimes referred to as a kilt) is a ladies skirt fashioned after a kilt. It has a fringed flat front with pleats in the back. We make ours using 4 yards of length hand pleated to suit the tartan and machine stitched. It can be worn whatever length you normally wear your skirts, either above the knee, just below the knee or at mid calf.

Note: The ‘hostess’ length is to the ankle or floor length, therefore, it is over 29 inches.

Bias Cut
The fabric is cut on the bias or diagonal and fully lined with or without a waistband. The price will depend on the size and length because of how the pieces have to be cut out and matched.

Long Straight Skirts
Long straight skirts provide a simple formal garment for woman. We provide a slit in the back for better movement and comfort.

Vests can be custom ordered in tartan, velvet, and tartan front/silky back.

When a woman wants a garment made in tartan, the possibilities are endless. Below are a number of garments made in tartan, velvet, silk, and tweed to give you some ideas of what is possible.

What Our Customers are saying:

"Dear Rosemary and Mac, Thank you so much for such a beautiful kilt! My kilt fits very well and is the right length, and the jacket matches the tartan perfectly and fits very well. Oh, also the socks fit perfectly. Thank you once again."

“WOW!!!! Ariana's kilt is absolutely beautiful!  We are so pleased with how it turned out.  I think that Colleen Rintamaki, her teacher, was even more excited than we were!   Thank you so much for all your hard work and your courteous service.  I will definitely recommend you far and wide!  We have also received her hose and are just awaiting her jacket.  When we get it all together I'll send you a picture. Thanks again.”

--Tracy Haslam

“We got the kilt today and it fits beautifully and looks great! Thanks so much for completing it before the big "gig"in Michigan. She has a parade this weekend and I'll send you a photo of her in uniform. I know she will keep this for the rest of her life and hopefully hand it down to a next generation at some point in time. It truly is a keepsake! Thank you again so much!”
